Want A Career Instead Of A Job? Economic Sustainability - Infolurker - 06-17-2023

Who works a crap job and wants what I would call "Least Resistance Career Opportunity"?

The least work or investment for a good paying career?

Today, I am going to give you my opinion on that and maybe I can help someone in need with career advice.

Go to a job board. I like to use www.simplyhired.com as they post the pay on many of postings.

Search for "Scrum Master" in your area. Now "Project Manager"

Once you do this, you will have an idea of what the career field pays. Now, the fun part.

Do you know how EASY it is to get PM and Scrum certifications? What if I told you that you can get PM certs for FREE?
All it costs is your time to learn and pass them. Better ones are low cost, a couple hundred bucks.

The job itself is easy if you have basic to moderate computer skills and can coherently talk on a phone and type an email outline summary of notes about topics reviewed on the conference, follow-up with people who are responsible for action items and drive results. It is pretty easy day to day.

Scrum is a secondary / add on generally to PM. It is easy as shit as well and I still do not understand why they pay so much for a SCRUM Master as you can get the certification within a couple of months easy. (yes, you are reading this right... free training, low cost scrum certification, big money and yes you are reading the job postings correctly, you can make 70-120K or more a year doing this after a couple of years of experience.

OK, where do I start?

Get the easy / fast / overview foundation stuff first so you have an understanding of the basics:

Great help and info for you young folk. I have retired three times and kept coming back, because I could not say "NO" when they made me believed they "needed" me.

I should make a complimentary thread titled, "How To Retire And Live More With Less".

I may just do that, when I have figured it out.

I dunno what a scrum master is, but the name sounds kinda icky - does it involve scrubbing the insides of sewer pipes on your hands and knees with a toothbrush?

I was a Team Manager for about the last 5 years of my work life, but took an early "retirement" when the government forced everything here to close during the covid, and there just ain't no call for Team Managers or Team Leaders around here any more, because there aren't any teams to lead any more, so no need for managing what ain't here.

Oh,

Did I fail to mention the best part?

There are many "work from home" jobs in this field.

My wife was doing contract PM work from home for $70 an hour for a couple years in between management roles but again, she has years of experience. Entry level PM will "most probably" not pay that high unless you have a related experience in the industry you are PM'ing for.

I was offered a "work from home" position when they closed the site down, but startup costs were too high for the package they were offering, so I told them to kiss my ass, I'd just sit and get skinny, before I'd supply my own equipment and dedicated lines for THEIR job at piss-ant pay.

Besides, work from home doesn't have the same panache - how do you grab a subordinate by the scruff of the neck and shake them until their eyes roll around and get oriented in the proper direction?

ROFL ... you've been out of the work force for far too long. The only thing suitable for you at this point is isolation w/limited contact via the Internet.  Laughing
