Judith Love Cohen was an American aerospace engineer. Cohen worked as an electrical engineer on the Minuteman missile, the science ground station for the Hubble Space Telescope, the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite, and helped create the Abort-Guidance System that rescued the Apollo 13 astronauts.

When she went into labor, she went to work. She took a printout of a problem she was working on to the hospital. She called her boss and said she finished the problem and oh by the way...gave birth to...

Cohen’s engineering career began in 1952, when she worked as a junior engineer at North American Aviation. After graduation from USC Viterbi School of Engineering in 1957, she went on to work at Space Technology Laboratories. Space Technology Laboratories eventually became TRW (acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2002). She stayed with the company until her retirement in 1990.

She was not just an engineer, but also an author. After her retirement from engineering, she founded a children’s multimedia publishing company. She eventually published more than 20 titles before her death in 2016. She was dedicated to education and her desire to inspire the next generation of engineers. She died on July 25, 2016, at the age of 82 years old. Though Cohen may be best known as Jack Black’s mother, the actor would be the first to acknowledge her accomplishments.

Nov 10, 1944: the ammunition ship USS Mount Hood (AE-11) exploded in Seeadler Harbour, Manus, Admiralty Islands, near Papua New Guinea. The blast was so violent that it destroyed 22 other vessels. 295 sailors on board the Mount Hood were obliterated. The cause of the disaster was never determined.

She was the first ship named after Mount Hood, a 11,249 ft volcano in the Cascade Range in Oregon.

The official Navy report noted that the vessel had a "relatively inexperienced crew," with a "lack of leadership among the officers, and lack of discipline among the crew," as well as "a general lack of posting safety regulations for handling ammunition.

Quote:GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinian workers in the Gaza Strip have found dozens of ancient graves, including two sarcophagi made of lead, in a Roman-era cemetery — a site dating back some 2,000 years that archaeologists describe as the largest cemetery discovered in Gaza.

Workers came upon the site last year during the construction of an Egyptian-funded housing project near Jabaliya, in the northern Gaza Strip. Since then, crews have worked to excavate the 2,700-square-meter (2/3 acre) site with the support of French experts.

Now, what was once an inconspicuous construction lot — surrounded by a grove of nondescript apartment buildings — has become a gold mine for archaeologists looking to understand more about the Gaza Strip.

Gaza, a coastal enclave home to some 2.3 million people, has a rich history stemming from its location on ancient trade routes between Egypt and the Levant. But a number of factors — Israeli occupation, Hamas’ 16-year takeover of the territory and rapid urban growth — have conspired to endanger many of the besieged strip’s archaeological treasures.

Against this backdrop, the discovery of 60 graves at the site in January marked a major finding, archaeologists say. That number has swelled to 135.

Rene Elter, a French archaeologist leading the dig, said researchers have studied over 100 of the graves.

“All of these tombs have almost already been excavated and have revealed a huge amount of information about the cultural material and also about the state of health of the population and the pathologies from which this population may have suffered,” said Elter, the head of archaeology for ”Intiqal,” a program managed by the French nonprofit Première Urgence Internationale.

Elter pointed to the sarcophagi made of lead — one featuring ornate grape leaves, the other with images of dolphins — as exceptional finds.

“The discovery of lead sarcophagi here is a first for Gaza,” he said.

Given the rarity of the lead tombs, Palestinian archaeologists like Fadel Al-Otul suspect that social elites are buried there. Al-Otul said the cemetery probably used to be located in a city — Romans used to place cemeteries near city centers.

Alongside the sarcophagi, Elter’s team is restoring unearthed skeletons and piecing together shards of clay jars.

The skeletons discovered at the site will be sent out of Gaza for additional analysis, according to Al-Otul. The remains are set to return to the Hamas-led Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism.

Elter said the territory needs a dedicated team to oversee archaeological activity in Gaza.

“The Gazans deserve to tell their stories,” he said. “Gaza boasts a plethora of potential archaeological sites, but monitoring each one, given the rapid pace of development, is no small feat.”

Archaeologists unearth the largest cemetery ever discovered in Gaza and find rare lead sarcophogi

So much for story telling. Jabaliya camp & vicinity from west to east has been bombed into oblivion. Like Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc.

11/11/1918, British Grand Fleet flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth celebrated Armistice Day by signaling to "Splice the mainbrace. Negative 6th B.S." The order meant that all sailors could have a drink except the Americans of the 6th Battle Squadron because U.S. Navy ships were dry. Damn! But wait, there's more...

The reason we celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 is because during WWI, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, an armistice went into effect and all fighting between the allied nations and Germany ceased.

On this Veterans Day in 1981, the first Trident submarine was commissioned at Electric Boat, a Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Connecticut. At age 42, USS Ohio (SSBN-726/SSGN-726) is the longest-serving submarine in US Navy history and still very active today. She was converted to a guided missile submarine (22 tubes, each with 7 Tomahawk cruise missiles) and was re-designated SSGN-726 in 2006. Capable of launching 154 cruise missiles in 6 minutes for Mutual Assured Destruction.

Quote:A majority of American adults would not be willing to serve in the military were the U.S. to enter into a major war, recent polling has found, while public confidence in the armed forces appears to be waning.

The figures come as all branches of the armed forces have in recent years struggled to meet their recruitment targets, suggesting a growing apathy towards a career of military service. In 2023, the Army and Air Force fell short of their respective goals by around 10,000 recruits, while the Navy was under by 6,000. Since 1987, the number of active-duty personnel has fallen by 39 percent.

Experts say that such shortfalls are worrisome in an increasingly volatile global picture with American leadership unsure when it will next have to bring its full military force to bear.

"We have strike groups, aircraft carriers with a Marine Expeditionary Unit outside Israel now," Justin Henderson, a former transport operator for the U.S. Marines turned military recruiter, told Newsweek. "We're funding two wars, but we're actually boots on the ground, drones above Gaza. So we're already involved in there—and we're not sure what's happening in Taiwan. So this is a very tumultuous time for us, because we don't know what's going to happen."

"How much it matters depends on what kind of people you're talking about and which bit you're not getting," Tom Shugart, a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security and a former Navy attack submarine commander, told Newsweek.

.....

The military is also facing a high level of unfitness to serve among the general population: as of 2020, it assessed that 77 percent of those aged 17-24 were unqualified due to medical reasons, drug use or criminal records.

But there are signs that the military is adapting to Generation Z. Henderson spoke of a gaming truck designed by the Air Force so young adults could simulate flying drones. "The military is now trying to speak their language," he said.

A five-foot chunk of whale blubber hit a new Oldsmobile that spectator Walter Umenhofer had bought at a dealer's "Whale of a Deal" promotion. No matter which side you lean on or perhaps you remain neutral we'll  probably have to wait 50 years to get the actual truth just like a poor Jewish university student wrote a thesis on the 1948 "Nakba" (massacre) in 1998 which he received a score of 97% but later to be tar & feathered, and sued by his own people and forced into isolation because he broke the golden rule of "thou shall never speak of it!" Denial is still prevalent to this very day, especially Zionist narratives.

Hilaire Belloc on the difference between the barbarian and the civilized man:
Quote:The Barbarian hopes — and that is the mark of him, that he can have his cake and eat it too. He will consume what civilization has slowly produced after generations of selection and effort, but he will not be at pains to replace such goods, nor indeed has he a comprehension of the virtue that has brought them into being. Discipline seems to him irrational, on which account he is ever marveling that civilization, should have offended him with priests and soldiers.... In a word, the Barbarian is discoverable everywhere in this, that he cannot make: that he can befog and destroy but that he cannot sustain; and of every Barbarian in the decline or peril of every civilization exactly that has been true.

We sit by and watch the barbarian. We tolerate him in the long stretches of peace, we are not afraid. We are tickled by his irreverence; his comic inversion of our old certitudes and our fixed creed refreshes us; we laugh. But as we laugh we are watched by large and awful faces from beyond, and on these faces there are no smiles.

We permit our jaded intellects to play with drugs of novelty for the fresh sensation they arouse, though we know well there is no good in them, but only wasting at the last.

Yet there is one real interest in watching the Barbarian and one that is profitable.

The real interest of watching the Barbarian is not the amusement derivable from his antics, but the prime doubt whether he will succeed or no, whether he will flourish. He is, I repeat, not an agent, but merely a symptom, yet he should be watched as a symptom. It is not he in his impotence that can discover the power to disintegrate the great and ancient body of Christendom, but if we come to see him triumphant we may be certain that that body, from causes much vaster than such as he could control, is furnishing him with sustenance and forming for him a congenial soil—and that is as much as to say that we are dying.

THIS AND THAT AND THE OTHER by Hilaire Belloc, 1912 (PDF)

Quote:Belloc's 1937 book The Crusades: the World's Debate, he wrote

The story must not be neglected by any modern, who may think in error that the East has finally fallen before the West, that Islam is now enslaved – to our political and economic power at any rate if not to our philosophy. It is not so. Islam essentially survives, and Islam would not have survived had the Crusade made good its hold upon the essential point of Damascus. Islam survives. Its religion is intact; therefore its material strength may return. Our religion is in peril, and who can be confident in the continued skill, let alone the continued obedience, of those who make and work our machines? ... There is with us a complete chaos in religious doctrine...We worship ourselves, we worship the nation; or we worship (some few of us) a particular economic arrangement believed to be the satisfaction of social justice...Islam has not suffered this spiritual decline; and in the contrast between [our religious chaos and Islam's] religious certitudes still strong throughout the Mohammedan world lies our peril.

November 13, 1789, Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to French scientist Jean-Baptiste Le Roy, wrote the famous quote, "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." This statement was part of a discussion on the political changes in the USA and France. It highlights the inevitability of taxes in society and Franklin's cleverness for expressing complex ideas succinctly.

The deeper issue here is that the UN and these offshoot agencies believe they have the (divine) right to dictate how information is controlled or censored, on an international level. By what authority are they operating and to whom are they accountable?

Ground Control to Major Tom

Check ignition and may God's love be with you

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule, if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control

And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today.

When the roads are closed
Do you know where you should be?
When the lights are dim
Are you going to come crying to me?
+
'Cause you're sitting there
With your legs crossed
Looking so carefree...
Do you think you can run away
From your so-called misery?
+
[Chorus]
Cause you know the
Tide ain't rollin' in for you
The tide ain't rollin' in for me
Are you going to sink?
Are you going to swim?
Because I'll take you down to the river...
But you're going in.
+
Now the choice is yours
Are you in or are you going to back out?
Well this is your life baby
Are you going to take a look around?
+
'Cause you seem to think that all
Your chances will chase you down
I'm telling you to open up your eyes
And take those feet off the ground.

Do you know where you should be?
When the lights are dim
Are you going to come crying to me?

Situated atop Tianmen Mountain in China, at an astonishing altitude of 5,000 feet above sea level, rests the remarkable Tianmen Cave, distinguished as the world's loftiest naturally sculpted arch. The arduous journey to this unparalleled landmark demands the traversal of precisely 999 steps along the fabled "stairway to heaven," a route suffused with cultural significance. The number nine, deeply auspicious in Chinese numerology, embodies concepts of good fortune and eternal blessings.

Heaven Linking Avenue of 99 curves at winding Road to The Heaven's Gate, Zhangjiagie, Tianmen Mountain.

Alternatively, for those who seek a less strenuous ascent, an option exists to embark on a bus expedition along a narrow roadway leading to this ethereal cavern. With dimensions measuring a staggering 430 feet in height and 190 feet in width, the cave presents an expansive and breathtaking space.

The cave's history is as captivating as its form. Its transformation dates back to the year 263 A.D., an epochal moment when a section of the mountain's cliff dramatically gave way. This monumental collapse catalyzed the creation of the awe-inspiring "portal to heaven," an evocative visage that continues to enchant all who behold it.

Originating from a cliff collapse in 263 A.D., this majestic "portal to heaven" continues to captivate visitors with its vast dimensions of 430 feet in height and 190 feet in width. A true testament to nature's wonders!

The accessibility to Tianmen Cave has been further facilitated by the Tianmen Mountain Cableway, one of the longest passenger cableways in the world. It covers a distance of 7,455 meters (24,459 feet) and has 98 cars, providing an alternative route to the cave.

Tartarus: The Greek Prison at the Bottom of Universe

One of the very few who dove ultra deep into the "Abyss" and managed to come back, Capt. Don Walsh, Deep Sea Submariner and Ocean Explorer, secret Project Nekton, dove deep into the Mariana Trench, has died at 92.

Quote:Walsh, a native of Berkeley, Calif., enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and worked as an aircrewman before he attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He became a submarine officer, commanding USS Bashaw (SSKS-241), and later became the Navy’s first deep submersible pilot.

Walsh was a Navy lieutenant on Jan. 23, 1960, and in command of the bathyscaphe Trieste when he and Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard dove deep into the Mariana Trench, intent on reaching and measuring its deepest point.

The secret work was codenamed Project Nekton. They rode in a vessel they mostly built in-house.

“Everything on this had to be designed by us and made by us, because there weren’t any commercial vendors, no catalog that sold parts or qualified for 20,000 or 16,000 psi, eight tons per square inch of pressure and to do the things that we wanted to do. Cameras, lights, samplers, sensors, instrument sensors – all of that we had to design and build, or have built,” Walsh said in a 2020 interview with USNI News. “So we were writing the book for deep ocean operations.”

“It was really mare incognita,” or unknown land, he said.

Walsh and Piccard reached the depth of 35,814 feet in an area called Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, located in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Guam – that is a mile deeper than Mount Everest is tall.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented the Legion of Merit to Walsh later that year.

Sin City happenings:

The highly anticipated Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, set in the heart of the city in Nevada, had to cancel its first practice run last night due to extensive damage to Carlos Sainz’s $15 million Formula 1 car. The damage occurred when the car sucked up a drain cover from the race track, revealing significant floor damage. Other drivers also faced issues with drain covers. The $70 million track is undergoing repairs, with F1 crews actively working on securing manholes. Officials announced that the second practice session is scheduled and expected to start when repairs are done.

The Lost Missile (1958) - low-budget film that relied heavily on stock footage of military forces and civil defense exercises. The film refers to Havenbrook Atomic Laboratory in suburban New York City. The actual Brookhaven National Laboratory is in Brookhaven, Long Island, N.Y.

Plot: The appearance of an unknown "missile-like" object in nearby space leads a European nation to fire a rocket at it. Though the rocket intercepts the unidentified object, the explosion only diverts the missile into an orbit around the Earth. Racing five miles above the earth, its passage causes widespread devastation of the land below.

Original director William Berke died of a sudden heart attack on the first day of shooting. His son, Lester Wm. Berke, took over. Guess I should not watch it alone! The concept of the atomic-powered cruise missile doomsday weapon was similar to that of the U.S. Air Force's Supersonic Low Altitude Missile, which was under development at the time.

Passed by the British Board of Film Censors with an "A" certificate on 6 October 1958. Enjoyed a two week run in London's West End, opening at the London Pavilion on 21 November 1958 and sharing the bill with Timbuktu (1958). Both films were generally released at normal prices on 14 December 1958.

Nov 17, 1991: CNN aired a special on continuity of government plans that included details on the blandly titled National Program Office (NPO).

9 min CNN clip:

The NPO plan was classified Top Secret, codeword Pegasus. It was also referred to as Project 908 (aka as "Nine Naught Eight"). The only oversight was by a Project Pegasus committee chaired by then-Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush. The committee included The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (or his deputy), FBI Director William H. Webster, Attorney General Edwin Meese III and other top cabinet officials. The action officer for the project was Marine Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, who then worked at the National Security Council under retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Robert McFarlane.

Prof Peter Dale Scott, the father of Deep Politics/Deep State:
Quote:In the case of the JFK assassination, I wish to focus on two men who functioned as part of the communications network of the Office of Emergency Planning (OEP), the agency renamed in 1968 as the Office of Emergency Preparedness (to which McCord was attached), and renamed again in 1982 as the National Program Office (for which Oliver North was the action officer).(11)

The Hidden Government Group Linking JFK, Watergate, Iran-Contra and 9/11

After the fall of the Soviet Union the imminent threat of nuclear war was no more and the The NPO headquarters in Crystal City, Virginia was dissolved in 1994. But, the key actors (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld) remained, lurking in the shadows... waiting... and then... 9/11 happened. The "Continuity Of Government" (COG), aka Project 908 and today better known as the 'Deep State' was in a sense re-activated (re-funded) after 9/11...NorthCom was born And went full-bore hyper insanity after 2020 that would make the RAND Corp. pioneering boys blush.

Nov 18, 1952: F9F-5 Panther pilot LT Royce Williams was serving with VF-781 aboard the USS Oriskany as part of Task Force 77. He shot down 4 Soviet MiG-15s after he and his wingman were attacked near the coast of North Korea. The other three pilots had to return to the carrier and the MiGs began to fire on Williams, putting him into a one-man dogfight with seven MiG-15s that lasted 35 minutes. It is believed to be the longest dogfight in U.S. Navy history. He made it back to the Carrier with 263 holes counted in his Panther jet.

To avoid escalating the Korean War, the incident was kept secret. In January 2023, Williams was awarded the Navy Cross as an upgrade of the Silver Star the Navy awarded him in 1953. There is now a campaign to have Williams awarded the Medal of Honor. Capt Williams is 98 and still kickin.

In TESTAMENT, the name of the school play that was being performed was "The Pied Piper of Hamelin".

The TESTAMENT film was originally shot as a made-for-TV movie. Paramount executives were so impressed with it that they released it in theaters as a feature. The cast sued the producers for higher pay, claiming they were paid television salaries and not feature film salaries. The case was settled out of court. The film was endorsed by SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and the DGA (Directors Guild of America). However, the production was not sanctioned by IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) though everyone was paid a union scale, no one received overtime.

He's high octane entertainment!

Quote:The Times of Israel: The criticisms you’ve received, being called crazy, weird, or even Nazi — without valid reason — have they made you doubt yourself?

Javier Milei: No. Because none of those criticisms are harsher than my own self-criticism, since I live in a constant process of self-critique.

Let’s talk about the world. You believe Israel and the United States could be Argentina’s top allies. What does Israel mean to you?

What I admire the most about Israel is its culture, its people. It gives me a lot of admiration to see how they manage to combine the spiritual world with the real world. That, to me, is formidable and admirable.

How long have you felt that way?

I’ve always felt a quite pronounced admiration, initially unconsciously and then more consciously. I remember that every Easter, the only movie I never missed was “The Ten Commandments.” Obviously, I already had felt a very strong attraction to the personality of Moses. But later on, as time passed, I had a student at the university who was also studying to become a rabbi, and I was surprised by the kind of questions he asked me. So, I asked him, “Where do you get this way of asking questions? Because this is great.” And he said to me, “No, it’s super easy. Because every morning I study to become a rabbi,” and I thought, “This is awesome.” Later on, I had the pleasure of meeting Axel Wahnish. He is my main rabbi today. He is a truly remarkable person, and obviously, along with my sister, they are my spiritual guides.

Would you really move the Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?

Yes, of course. I don’t care if I’ll be criticized by world leaders. I truly believe that’s the right thing to do.

Would you convert to Judaism during or after your political career? It’s not easy.

It’s very difficult because I wouldn’t be able to fulfill all the precepts due to the demands I’d have as president. You know if you’re a convert, you have to comply with all of the Jewish religious precepts. I was recently in New York and I even had the privilege of visiting the office of the [late] Lubavitcher Rebbe [Menachem Mendel Schneerson]… The thing is, I’d possibly plan to convert after my political career is finished.

Thank you. Churchill would say that a good statesman is not the one who thinks about the next elections but the next generations.

Today is Television Day. The 1950's (1955-58) anthology series NAVY LOG featured stories from "official U.S. Navy files." The series provided many actors, including Clint Eastwood, Michael Caine, and Leonard Nimoy, some of their earliest credited roles. In August 1957, then-Senator John F. Kennedy was technical adviser for the "P. T. 109" episode of the program, which related the story of the sinking of the patrol torpedo boat that he commanded. Nov 20, 1985: Windows 1.0 released...

First announced in 1983, Microsoft Windows 1.0 wouldn’t make it to the consumer market for another two years — making it one of the first pieces of software to be dismissed as “vaporware,” a term actually coined by a Microsoft engineer a year before the Windows announcement, as a disparaging title bestowed upon a product that’s announced but never sees the light of day.

Windows 1.0 (fake) Ad aired on TV (1986)

Why did Ballmer say, "except in Nebraska" at the end??

M$FT employee #30 Steve Ballmer created not an Ad, it was never intended for the public, but solely for the entertainment & morale boosting of Microsoft employees. The answer to Nebraska in this 10 min esplainer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqNJvMpxxco

RE: Meme Scholar with Madness (PhD) - Freija - 11-22-2023

I was eight years old, living in Columbus, Ohio and in the 3rd grade when Kennedy was shot.

Being somewhat mature for my age or maybe slightly precocious, I remember the day well when the announcement came over the classroom loudspeaker and my teacher started crying. At any rate, the significance of what had happened was not lost on me. A day or two after, we had a memorial assembly in the auditorium and as I recall we got a day or a half a day off somewhere in there too?
