How to download a youtube video without premium - ancientlight - 03-25-2026

Hi all.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Some way that I don't have to worry about getting a virus either.

If I understand your question @ youtube or a web site where you are viewing a video put your mouse pointer on the video and right click . A tree of options will appear and one is to "copy video URL" do that and then paste the copy in an email or where ever you want others to see it such as R. N.  https://youtu.be/hslM2KFjrDE

Hope I got the question right for you.

There are dozens of web sites and apps that allow you to download the video to your hard drive.

Google "download youtube video" and find one you like.

Here's one: https://app.ytdown.to/en23/

Depending on which web browser you use there are Addon plug-ins that will place a Download Video button on whatever Youtube video you are viewing.

If using Firefox search for : Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express

The browser extensions are probably the best and easiest, like the one EndTheMadnessNow linked to. I use the "Addoncrop" extension in Brave browser and Opera, and the Easy YouTube video down-loader in Firefox.

Addoncrop allows you to download not only the videos, but the splash screen tile too, as well as the closed captioning for the video.

Since I run a Linux system, there is a Linux program called  "Ultimate Media Downloader" that I use as well. It's not browser-dependent, but it may be operating system dependent - I've not looked for  Windows version since I left Windows systems permanently and irrevocably a couple of years ago... so I don't keep up with software availability for operating systems I'll never use again.

The neat thing about that Ultimate Media Downloader is that it'll grab YT vids, but also vids from just about everywhere else. I use it to download X videos and Facebook videos as well. All you need is the URL of the video, you plug it in to the program and POOF! you have a copy of the video locally.

It is a good idea to download a YT video you really like, before it is deleted or edited.
We burnt all the Why Files to 2 or 3 different DVDRs and watched them all in a row on our TV about a year ago.
So now we have to catch up.
Also it's really good for concert videos if you can get the high definition.

I have never used the browser extensions but the web versions seem to work okay.
I like how you can also choose to just download audio if you are going to grab a podcast.

I see a lot of the web versions I used are gone now .That was fast...

Just tried that "Ultimate Media Downloader" as you mentioned... really an awesome tool! Works on Windows, grabbed it from GitHub, and since it's Python-based, seems super easy to modify if I wanted to.
Nothing beats firing up a cmd prompt… and watching the terminal scroll.  MinusculeCheers
