Naval Aviation on a bad day - 727Sky - 03-06-2024

I was particularly interested in the carrier USS FORRESTAL which had a really bad day with over 100 lost souls.

Never had the experience of visiting the Forrestal.  But met ship mates on visits to the Enterprise and Kittyhawk.  I was on the Melbourne at the time during RIMPAC exercises and other visits to Pearl.

Amazing ships even back then in the late 70's.  Love looking over the aircraft.  I was in awe of the vigilante.  We only had scooters on the Melbourne but they suited the small flight deck.

HMAS Melbourne also had it's fair share of tragedies.  Sinking the HMAS Voyager and USS Frank E Evans after collisions.  Was known as a Jinx ship but it was an experience living aboard 'mother'.
