‘Full-on riot’ breaks out during Twitch influencer Kai Cenat’s PS5 giveaway in NYC - Infolurker - 08-04-2023

Riot when a twitch celebrity announced a give away of playstations and various other electronics in NYC. He has been arrested.

I think he underestimated the FSA. The first video below is the best as he tries to get the hell out of there once it becomes clear violence is about to occur. I am actually surprised how long some of the rioters held on to his SUV.

People are funny. It's amazing the violence they will perpetrate all for a few baubles and promises of freebies.

I hear the "influencer" has been arrested for his role in inciting this action.

Technology is cancer

The "child" of technology is cancer.

We need to bring the hospitals back, the only reasons they failed was because all of them were run by those paperclip idiots that we just had to "save".....for science and stuff.

Kenzo, I would assume they are either purging the "good people" who don't want to go along with turning NYC into Portland. One could hope it is the other way around but I would highly doubt that.

I think it's rather people are predictable in situations such as these, same with some, albiet more rarer, shoppers at Black Friday events where there are different psychologies at play at large gatherings and where crowd management is a must without freebies, throw in freebies then the psychology of 'getting something for nothing' seems to become some sort of achievement which overtakes rational thought. With this event, you have both psychologies at play, IMO. The management and organizations are responsible for crowd management, plain and simple.

It's also more unsustainable consumption which is ruining the planet. Just saying.

What surprised me is that the mob actually chased his SUV and hung onto it as they tried to speed off. (first video).

That is some dangerous actions there. Why risk serious bodily harm like that because you didn't get a freebie?

Mind boggling. Does not compute.

Lack of rational thought all the way, is my guess.

I was thinking the same, this isn't a social media or technology problem. I just watched the episode on "The Dark Side of the 90s" on Vice, the episode on Beanie Babies was insane. Tickle me Elmo was just as dangerous. Go back even further, Cabbage Patch wasn't innocent by any stretch. Full on riots, fights, blood, etc.
